I've got a cheerful birthday card for the sketch this week. I decided to pull out PTI's birthday balloon die. I made my own stencil and used that to make my background. I used Distress Oxide inks- Peacock Feathers, Twisted Citron, and Squeezed Lemonade. I had several plain white balloon cut outs from making the stencil, so I decided to ink-blend a few of those to add to the card for extra interest.

Next, I inked up some plain cardstock using the same distress inks, as well as Salty Ocean. I die cut this fun scripty hooray word by MFT. To add some extra strength and shine, I embossed it with clear embossing powder. I decided to use a small piece of vellum as the panel element since I didn't want to cover the background too much. I also added a sentiment from Sentiment Staples: Birthday to complete the greeting.

Fall to Layout #64- Take Two

Happy Easter Sunday!

Today, I have a bright and summery card to share!

This card is a bit similar to last week's in that the main layers will work in various sizes, as long as you remain proportionate to the card front you choose!

For my card I used:

• Card Base: 4-1/4 x 5-1/2
• Hawaiian Shores Layer: 3-3/4 x 5 (note- I adhered my patterned paper on top of this layer)
• Black Mat Layer: 3-7/8 x 5-1/8
• Patterned Paper Strip: 1-3/4 x 5
• Grosgrain Ribbon 5/8 width

This card started as I perused the Stampin' Up Tutti Frutti paper pack. I thought this patterned paper with the watermelons and aqua-ish background was super cute. I dug into my Paper Pumpkin kit stamps and pulled out this one from last year that features watermelons. I stamped two of those and cut one in half to make a smaller wedge. I used Berry Sorbet for the flesh and a combination of New Leaf and Simply Chartreuse for the green.

A couple of tips: First, I used a black .5 micron pen to add the little seeds. Second, I wanted a white rind for each fruit, as well as a thin white frame around each fruit. To achieve this, I simply used a white gel pen and added lines where I wanted them. A good white gel pen can be a craft saver!

I stamped my greeting from Papertrey Ink's now retired Scentimentals set. I wanted a punny greeting, so I figured this one was appropriate. Next I adhered the patterned paper to the Hawaiian Shores layer. Next up I added a strip of Berry Sorbet Ribbon and adhered that whole panel to a black mat. I attached my cut out watermelon wedges with foam tape and then the whole panel was placed on a white card base.

The final step was adding a few of the tear drop epoxy shapes (Stampin' Up!) to show just how juicy the fruit is.

I think I will definitely be using this colour combination again soon! Isn't coral, aqua, green and black fun!?

Fall to Layout #63 Take Two

Happy Sunday everyone!



We're skipping sketch #62. Do you ever look back at a sketch or card design and think why? Well that's how I felt about sketch #62, so I decided that I would take the easy way out and just move onto #63, which is below.

This card works well using various measurements. For the card below I made my image panel 3.75 x 5, and framed that with 3-7/8 x 5-1/8. Essentially as long as you keep the image panel proportionate to your card front it feels pretty balanced.

The sentiment strip is 3 x 1- this also has some wiggle room. I just stamped my greeting on a larger piece of the Harvest Gold cardstock and then cut it to size and used a circle punch to round the one edge.

I love making stamped backgrounds. These three leaves from Palm Prints work exceptionally well for this stamping style. I especially love that you can layer them and it doesn't take away from the whole image.

When doing this kind of background, start with your largest image (the green leaves in this case). I stamped the leaf with Limeade Ice and the lines with Simply Chartreuse. After that, work your way down in size. So the next batch of leaves I did was the Hawaiian Shores and Tropical Teal ones. Finally, I finished with the Harvest Gold and Summer Sunrise leaves. In this case, I also wanted to finish with the lightest colour since I knew it'd be okay to layer that one a bit on top of the other images.

As mentioned above, I stamped my greeting (using Sentiment Staples: Happy Birthday) onto some Harvest Gold paper and then trimmed it to about 1 inch wide. I then used a 1-1/4 circle punch to do the rounded edge. I've attached an image below, in case this is a new idea/concept for you:

The final few steps were to assemble it all and then I added little clear droplets with some Morning Dew Nuvo drops.

Natasha and I had a chat before making our sketch cards and butterflies (my favourite) came up! I first stamped some flowers (which I really like how they turned out btw) but remembered this Hero Arts Stamp and die set (DC182)  in my stash! And then it hit me! Let’s pop up those butterflies for an added effect. I used Wplus9 ink V.I. Pink and Shell pink. And for the sentiment I pulled out Simon says Stamp thankful heart! Think I’ll be making more of this one! Perhaps in purple?? Looking forward to see what you all create for us this week!

Fall to Layout #61: Take Two

Happy Sunday! I've got a fruity themed card for you today, full of summery colours!

Card: 4.25 x 5.5
Orange layer: 5 x 3.75
Patterned paper: 4.25 x 2
Circle: 1.75, plus coordinating layer

Here's my card. I used Stampin' Up's Fruit Basket and a bit of the coordinating paper from the Tutti Frutti paper pack. I used the Limitless Layers: Circles and one of the greetings from Ways to Say: Thank You by Papertrey Ink. Simple and sweet!

I started by stamping the bowl and several pears. I cut out the bowl and adhered that to my circle layer. Next, I punched out several pears and arranged them in the basket. That went on a Summer Sunrise circle layer. Next I stamped my greeting on the Orange Zest layer and then added the green patterned paper. Originally, I was going to follow the sketch, but I grabbed an orange scrap from my card stash that was a touch smaller than a card front. I like the white frame of the card base.

Fall to Layout # 60 Take Two

Happy Sunday! Hope you're ready for the next sketch.

Here's my card! I just got the birthday balloons stamp set and thought it would well with the sketch. I started cutting out and stamping several of the the balloons, undecided at first about colour. I ended up going with a Hawaiian Shores balloon. I used the starry background image and some gold embossing powder to jazz it up. I decided not to have my extra balloon die cuts go to waste, so I glued them all together (4 total) to give dimension to the balloon. Next I stamped the balloon string and the sentiment, as well as a few stars on the Aqua Mist layer. I cut the gold cardstock and used a punch to round the corners. I added a few wooden stars from my embellishment collection. The final step was added a line of simple paper piercing.

Hello everyone! Thanks for popping by today! Hope you enjoy today’s sketch card and feel inspired to share with us your interpretation!

I wasn’t to sure the way this card was going to go today but when I sat at my craft table I had that yellow card stock out with that die over it...so I decided to make something work with the inspiration I had a few days ago when I was crafting! I went through my dies and also found these fun feathers I’ve not used in forever and thought they’d look fun with some ink blending! I used 4 colours....I went with the 4 that were on top of the pile not knowing if they’d work or not, but I’m happy with them! (Picked raspberry, fossilized amber, cracked pistachio and seedless preserves oxides). The sentiment is from Wplus9 strictly sentiments 2. Once my card was all put together it needed some bling! Added some pretty pink posh clear sequins. Just classed it up some ;)
