Ten Minute Monday- 07/13/09

Wow, I love it when my post publishes and there's nothing in it, lol!
Anyway, here's my card. I just got this fun Scattered Leaf Border stamp by Hero Arts and needed to be it to good use! I stamped glossy cardstock with versamark, heat set it, then started sponging various Memento inks all over, spectrum style. Next I stamped a sentiment and two leaves on some vanilla cardstock, cut those out and pieced it all together on some textured brown cardstock. Supplies: Stamps: Scattered Leaf Border, Sentiment (both by Hero Arts) Ink: Cantaloupe, Tangelo, Potter's Clay, Rhubarb, Rich Cocoa, Versamark Paper: Textured Brown, Vanilla Accessories, etc.: Sponge, pop dots

CAS Friendly Techniques

Polished Stone This is one of the first stamping techniques I ever learned. I thought the result was so stunning that I had to have the supplies immediately. For this technique, check out HERE for a step by step guide. The only thing I do differently, is I put ALL the reinkers on the soaked cotton ball. There are several reasons I consider this a CAS friendly technique.
  • You can do a whole 8.5x11 sheet very quickly. Cut it up and place on several cards.
  • The versatility of looks you can get make it great for virtually any kind of card.
  • Minimal supplies needed, and if you don't have them, they are relatively inexpensive and they go a long way.
  • The look that is achieved with polished stone is conducive to a CAS type card. You really don't want to cover up all that pretty patterned paper you just made!

Supplies: Stamps: Asian Flair (Verve Stamps), Ink: red, black, gold reinkers Paper: black, white, red, glossy white Accessories, etc.: rubbing alcohol, cotton balls, gold EP, ribbon, gold cord

Fall to Layout #7 Friendship

This was a really fast and easy card to make. I used an oval nestability to cut out a mask for the card front. I used temporary tape to tape the mask to the card and sponged in the colors. The I stamped the butterfly image and the sentiment. I finished it off with the ribbon. Supplies: Stamps - Lizzie Anne Designs Au Naturale; Ink - Marvy Blending Block, Versafine Black Onyz; Misc - sponge, nestabilities, scrap paper, ribbon

CAS Friendly Techiques: Overlays

Overlays are definitely a quick and easy way to add a little bit of WOW to a card. There are several amazing ones available for purchase. Of course, if you have a bit of vellum or acetate and a decent permanent ink, you can go ahead and make your own.
For my card, I did the flowers and leaves on the vanilla base. Then I attached the vellum (tape hidden under the ribbon) and stamped the daisy prints and the sentiment. In case you were curious, Memento inks dry almost instantly on the vellum. It's quite nice. This card also fits Laurie's challenge at SCS (got vellum?)

Technique: Overlays

This is the first time I have ever used vellum. I used the PaperTrey Linen Vellum cardstock for the card base and stamped the leaves on the card front. I then used Black Staz-On and stamped the sentiment on regular vellum and attached it to the card front with mini glue dots. I added the ribbon at the top to finish it off. Supplies: Stamps - Verve Serenity; Paper - PaperTrey Linen Vellum, PaperTrey Vellum Cardstock; Ink - SU! Old Olive, Black Staz-On; Misc - Ribbon, glue dots.

CAS Friendly Techniques

Once again, it's time to bring out the glossy paper and a brayer. It's time for spectrum backgrounds. These don't have to be monochromatic. They can be very effective that way, but really, any group of colours that can be arranged in a spectral fashion work well for this! I made my background using Certainly Celery, Cool Caribbean and Lavender Lace. I had originally tried it out on ultrasmooth white, it just absorbs too fast and you don't get as nice of a blend. The glossy white paper definitely provides a forgiveness of sorts. Next, I attached my spectrum panel to a card front, softened it up a bit with some white organdy ribbon. I added a sentiment with Stazon, then stamped and cut out a few flowers and leaves in matching colours! This one ended up being about a 12 minute card. Supplies: Stamps: Bodacious Bouquet, Heartfelt Phrases Ink: Celery, Caribbean, Lavender, Black Stazon Paper: Glossy White, White, Caribbean Accessories, etc.: Organdy Ribbon, pop dots, brayer

Crayon Resist

This is the first time I have done the crayon resist technique and it took me under 10 minutes to make this easy, simple card. I think it took me longer to find a white crayon than it did to make the card! I started with white glossy cardstock and stamped the flower image in black Staz-on. Then I traced the insides of the flower with the white crayon. Next I swiped a purple (looks blue in the photo) Marvy dye ink pad across the entire card and wiped off the ink with a tissue. Supplies: stamps: SU! Pocket Fun; Paper: The Paper Co. glossy cardstock; Ink: Staz-on, Marvy Dye ink

CAS Friendy Techniques

Every so often, I'll be focusing on a technique that I find works well with the CAS style. For this one, I'm going a bit "old school", in more ways than one... Pull out that glossy paper and white crayons, maybe a brayer or a few sponges- it's time for White Crayon Resist. This technique is super fast, and it looks pretty cool. Decide on an image theme and your colours and you're all set to go. For this one, I started with some flowers from PTI's Beautiful Blooms set. I stamped them, then added in some white lines with the crayon. Next, I got a sponge and started wiping mustard and burgundy all over. I finished it off with a small frame, some matching ribbon, and a sentiment. One of the great things about this technique is that you could stamp a whole sheet of these, then cut it up and make a whole bunch of cards like the style I've posted here.
