FTL 23: Take Two!

Happy Friday! I've been counting down the days until Friday all week. I worked last weekend which means I only had Sunday off. Whenever this happens I always feel like I didn't get enough time to really recharge. However, this upcoming weekend is a 3-day one! Anyway, enough about that, here's the look back at the sketch!

This is definitely one of my favourites!

Here's my card. In light of the recent heat wave that has finally broken, I figured I'd use this fun cool treats set. I coloured the popsicle using a rainbow assortment of Copics and then covered it with glossy accents for that melty shine. I also used the smaller popsicles in this set to make some patterned paper.

Here's a close up look at the popsicle with the glossy accents.

Ink: Tuxedo Black, Pure Poppy
Paper: White, Black, Orange Zest, Pure Poppy
Accessories, etc.: Circle punch, nestabilities-circles

As always, we'd love to see your take on the sketch! If you play along please leave a link in the comments!

FTL 22 - Take Two

This week I got these beautiful Ellen Hutson dies that I ordered…had to play with them instantly!!! And I was in the mood to get inky with a side of masking!! The card turned out just as I had pictured it in my head!!! Love when that happens!

After I blended the inks (evergreen bough and cracked pistachio distress inks) I spritzed it with some shimmer mist which sadly didn't show to well in the picture! Once that was done and dry I added this beautiful scripted word from Papertrey Ink stamped the sentiment under it….and just for a bit of a contrast as I mounted that inked panel on white card stock the card base I took the linen background stamp from MFT inked it up with versa mark and just added clear embossing over it…its very subtle but it was that little bit of contrast I was looking for!!

So thats my card for this week! Sure hope you like it! Make sure to leave your blog links in the comments below so we can go check out what you've made!

FTL 22- Take Two!

Happy Friday! Here's the look back the sketch #22!

I was in the mood for a bit of watercolouring and emboss resist. I started out with the lovely flower from a Donna Downey/Unity Stamps set called Insightful Meadow. I embossed that with white onto the cotton paper. Next, I used a few Distress Inks to watercolour the background. I used Peacock Feathers, Evergreen Bough, and Pine Needles. I used an old punch by Stampin' Up for the greeting. Since I decided to use brown ink and brown cardstock for the greeting, I felt like I needed to bring in brown elsewhere on the card. I splattered a bit of Dark Chocolate ink on my panel and then mounted the whole thing on a thin white mat. I thought Kraft worked nicely for the card base.

FTL21- Take Two!

Happy Friday! Here's the look back at sketch #21! This one is meant to be a square. Both of my samples were 4.5x4.5

My first card uses the One with Nature set. I wanted something very simple, using bright colours. Colours here are by Papertrey Ink- Harvest Gold, Berry Sorbet, Melon Berry and Dark Chocolate.

Even though I really liked the colours, I just wasn't feeling the first card. I decided to do another using cupcakes! I pulled out WPlus9's Sweet Treats for the cupcakes and Fresh Baked for the sentiment. I coloured the cupcakes with Copic markers. You can't see it in the photo, but I stamped cupcakes all over the black cardstock. I also jazzed up the yellow strip with some polka dots.

FTL20- Take Two

Happy Friday!

Here's the look back at Sketch #20!

I really wanted to use my new flamingo dies and the matching stamp set, so I didn't follow the sketch exactly. The size of the two items together made the proportions from the original sketch a little tough to match. I omitted the eyelets in the corners and the ribbon, but it still works well enough!

Ink: Onyx Black, Raspberry Fizz
Paper: Pretty in Pink, Raspberry Fizz, Black, White
Accessories, etc.: Flamingo Dies

FTL19- Take Two!

Happy Friday! Here's the look back at the 19th sketch.

And here's my take on the sketch. I used this cute cow and sentiment from MFT's The Whole Herd. I coloured it with Copic markers and fussy cut it out.
Here's the full card. The little hill was made by diecutting a long oval and then chopping off the sides- it's pretty straight-forward I think.

Also, have a good holiday weekend to my American readers!

FTL18- Take Two!

Happy Friday! This week's sketch is a touch busier than most, but I think it proves that you can still use a more complex layout and still maintain a cleanness to your card!

Here's my card! I just received these adorable MFT stamps and was itching to use them. I separated the sentiment here-placing just the "happy birthday" on the front and the "from the whole herd" in the interior. I cut smaller squares and stamped different animals in each square. Those were coloured with Copic markers.

Ink: Tuxedo Black
Paper: White, Kraft, Real Red
Accessories, etc.: Scalloped Square Die, Copic markers

FTL17- Take Two

Happy Friday! Here's a look back at this week's sketch. This one is meant to be a one-layer card, which was a nice change.

I decided to bring out Spring Blooms. I was in the mood for peachy-orange tones and used Melon Berry and Canyon Clay for the flowers. It's a pretty straight-forward card. The sentiment is from Strictly Sentiments 1.

FTL16- Take Two!

Happy Friday! Here's the look back at the 16th sketch. I really like this one, it's definitely one of my favorites! I love using three elements placed on a panel that is proportionally smaller than the card front. It's really one of my go to layouts. I tend to make the focal panel 3.25x4.5 or 3x4.25.

Once again, I made two cards. For the first card, I just had a hankering to use these veggie stamps (Vegetable Garden). I don't know why, I just wanted to. Because I stamped a background on the kraft paper, I ended up going sentiment-less. Also, I didn't know what kind of sentiment goes well with vegetables.

For the second card, I guess I was still on a food kick. This one features the Fruitful set. I used the same citrus stamps to make an orange slice, a lemon slice, and a lime slice. I thought that would look nice with a bit of grey and some Hawaiian shores. I wanted to stick with the circle theme for a background, so I used the Medallions background set. Lastly, I used a sentiment from Hello Sunshine. Love this particular sentiment for a nice cheer up sort of card. I did partial inking to only stamp "sending you a little bit of sunshine".

FTL15- Take Two

Happy Friday!

Here's a look back at sketch #15.

Here's my take on the sketch.
I was in the mood for flowers and cheerful colours.

Stamps: Floral Frenzy, Wet Paint, Background Basics: Botanical
Ink: Aqua Mist, Berry Sorbet, Smokey Shadow, Fresh Snow
Paper: Smokey Shadow, Aqua Mist, White
Accessories, etc.: grosgrain ribbon, happy birthday die

FTL 14- Take Two

Happy Friday!

Here's this week's look back to sketch #14

I made two cards for it, mainly because I figured I should use the full circle of patterned paper I had decided on. Really, how often do your go back through your paper scrap stash looking for half a circle...

FTL 13 - take 2

Happy weekend everyone!! The temp is beyond lovely here and I'm inside making cards…well thats mostly cause I will be moving here again soon and needed to get one more in before I began to pack it up again!!

I had a lot of fun with this sketch…had a picture in my head of how I wanted it to look and it came out pretty darn close!!!

Lots of pretty flowers nice and bright and summery just like the weather outside today!!! Hope you enjoy! I look forward to seeing what you create!!!

FTL13- Take Two

Happy Friday!

Here is the 13th sketch:

Here's my take (two) on the sketch. It can be a bit tricky to find the right image for this sketch, so I suggest pulling out a few different stamps, stamping a few different panels and seeing what which you like best.

I decided on the Harvest Berries set by Papertrey Ink and a greeting from Through the Trees.

Stamps: Harvest Berries, Through the Trees
Ink: Dark Chocolate, Fine Linen, Vintage Cream
Paper: Fine Linen, Dark Chocolate, Vintage Cream
Accessories, etc: Twill Ribbon

FTL12- Take Two

Happy Friday!

This is one of my favourite sketches because it is so simple and versatile! So much so that I ended up making two!

Here's my first card. I was in the mood for some watercolour. So I used Peacock Feathers, Mowed Lawn, Mustard Seed, and Fired Brick for the background. The flowers were stamped with Memento Ink and then I coloured them with Copic colours. I did a bit of fussy cutting and attached it over the watercoloured background. The flower came from Clearly Besotted. The sentiment is one form Papertrey Ink.

For this next card, I did some more Copic colouring. I stamped the background using Soft Sky, Baja Breeze, and Lost Lagoon, and then stamped, coloured, and cut out the coffee cup. The dots are from a Mama Elephant set. The coffee cup is from a Simon Says Stamp set.

FTL11- Take Two

Happy Friday!

Here's the 11th sketch. This one is meant to be a square. I like to do 5x5 when I make square cards.

Here's my card!

Stamps: Life is Beautiful, Birthday Basics (PTI)
Ink: Ripe Avocado, Tropical Teal, Hawaiian Shores, Simply Chartreuse, Limeade Ice
Paper:  Ripe Avocado, Tropical Teal, Hawaiian Shores, Simply Chartreuse, Limeade Ice, White
Accessories, etc.: Circle dies, Satin Ribbon

FTL10-Take Two

This was supposed to be a scheduled post for May 1st, but that didn't work as planned! It's all written up, so here it is! Here's this week's look back to sketch #10! The take two of sketch #11 will still be posted this Friday, May 8.

Once again, I wanted to make sure that I used something different than the image I originally included on the sketch. At first I tried to use stars in place of the flowers, but it just wasn't working out. I decided to move on and went with these delightful starbursts from the Shakers & Sprinkles stamp set. The sentiment comes from the Sparkle & Shine stamp set. You can't see it in the photo, but I clear embossed the word Shine, for well, some extra shine!

Stamps: Shakers & Sprinkles, Sparkle & Shine
Ink: Orange Zest, Summer Sunrise
Paper: Summer Sunrise, Orange Zest, Harvest Gold, White
Accessories, etc.: Satin ribbon,  starburst embossing folder

FTL9- Take Two

Happy Friday!

By this time, I should be almost at my destination in Barcelona. It's been planned for months, and it's finally here! I've always wanted to see Europe and my husband and I decided to book a Mediterranean Cruise for our honeymoon!

But enough about that, onto this week's sketch!

This card is meant to not be the standard 4.25x5.5 size. I made mine 3.75x6. I've still been on a bit of a patterned paper kick. I went through my Doodlebug Designs stash and found this adorable cherry paper. I selected coordinating colours and stamps and got to work!

Stamps: Scent-imentals
Ink: Pure Poppy, New Leaf, Black
Paper: Doodlebug Designs Fruit Stand, Pool Party, Pure poppy, White
Accessories, etc.: Limitless Layers-Circle, Ribbon

FTL8- Take Two

Happy Friday! I hope you're ready to revisit another sketch. I thoroughly enjoy this one!

Here's my take on it. Once again, I used patterned paper as my starting point and selected colours from that for my cardstock, ink, and stamps.

Ink: Blueberry Sky, Summer Sunrise, Harvest gold, Classic Kraft
Stamps: Life is Beautiful, Inside & Out: Birthday
Paper: Soft Stone, White, Classic Kraft, Stampin' Up! Paper
Accessories, etc: Circle nestablities, grosgrain ribbon, scalloped edge punch

FTL7- Take Two

Happy Friday!

Here's this week's look back to FTL7!

Here's my card. I am slowly trying to use my older patterned paper stash. I chose the paper first and then decided on the general colour scheme and stamps after.

Stamps: Masculine Motifs
Ink: Ripe Avocado, Dark Chocolate
Paper: White, Ripe Avocado, SU! Patterned Paper
Accessories, etc.: Oval dies, ribbon

FTL6- Take Two

Hello! Here's the 6th sketch! I like this one because you can use basic paper, patterned paper, or stamp your own patterned paper.

Here's my take on the sketch!
I was in the mood for something cheerful. I decided to go through my stash and saw that I had so many different yellow papers, so I thought it'd be nice to use them all together.

I stamped the two sized leafy sprigs in Versamark on each square and then embossed it with clear embossing powder. I attached the yellow squares onto some brown card stock and then placed that onto a cream card base.

Stamps: Spring Blooms, Fresh Baked
Ink: Versamark, Dark Chocolate
Paper: More Mustard, Summer Sun, Crushed Curry, Lemon Tart, Harvest Gold, Vintage Cream, Dark Chocolate
Accessories, etc.: Corner Rounder

FTL5- Take Two!

Happy Friday!

Back with another look back at sketch #5.

I still think this is one of my favorites! There's something I find so visually satisfying about using images that push outside a box image.

Anyway, here's my take on it! Pulled out WPlus9's Whole Lotta Happy and made a fun balloon bouquet atop a happy background!

I truly love this stamp set from Wplus9!
Stamps: Whole Lotta Happy
Ink: Raspberry Fizz, Aqua Mist, Summer Sunrise, Rich Razzleberry, Limeade Ice, Black
Paper: White, Aqua Mist, Black
Other: Pop dots, black sharpie

On a few other notes- I am so looking forward to returning to taking pics outside on my balcony! The days are finally long enough to start doing that, and the weather is being mostly agreeable. We had some snow the last few days, but I think we're almost out of that winter stretch!!

Also, I know this and this have been out for a while, but I just love them! Unfortunately they aren't in my stash yet- on a bit of a spending freeze. But how fun would this sketch be with the sun peaking over the stitched frame and a few clouds!

As always, if you play along, please leave a link in the comments!

FTL4: Take Two!

Happy Friday! Here's the next sketch- #4!

I remember kind of struggling with this one way back when I first did, and I still kind of struggled with it again! I altered it a little bit, but the general design concept comes through.

Stamps: Summer Sweetness
Ink: Dark Chocolate, Royal Velvet, Lavender Moon
Paper: White, Plum Pudding Spot Paper, Lavender Moon
Accessories, etc.: Corner Rounder

To get the blended look on the popsicle, I inked it up first with the lighter ink, then I did the rock and roll technique, making sure to hit only the top part, then to ensure the inks blend, I inked up the lighter ink over top. I've done this so many times, and I've never notices an ink transfer to the ink pad (although I always do this in the same colour family)
