FTL221 Congratulations

What a great sketch with so many possibilities!  I needed an anniversary card for my sister - her 40th anniversary.  I used the Heart to Heart #3 stamps and die from PaperTrey as well as the Double Ended Banner Die.  The sentiment is from another PaperTrey set.  I used a Copic Multiliner pen and a ruler to draw the frame on the card front.

Happy Friday! I hope you're ready for a new sketch! For this one, you don't have to use 4 elements down your card front. I ended up only using 3 stars, since 4 just couldn't fit!

I saw Amber's faceted star tutorial and was reminded about how quick and easy it is to make those 3-D stars. I immediately found some glittery paper and got to work making mine! The dimensions I used are pretty straight forward. Standard card base of 4-1/4 x 5-1/2. The main layer is 3-3/4 x 5. The mat layer is 3-7/8 x 5-1/8. I used the stars from Papertrey Ink and the banner die from Stampin' Up!

Stamps: Winterberry (PTI)
Ink: Cherry Cobbler
Paper: Kraft, Sparkly Paper (Michaels), Dark Chocolate, White
Accessories, etc: Stars die (PTI) Bitty Banners (SU!)

FTL220 Holiday Sparkle

As soon as I saw the sketch for this week, I knew I wanted to play with some Washi Tape... I tried a few different things before I decided to simply use the snowflakes tape and some shimmer cardstock.  This card has become one of my favourites for this year!!!
The snowflake is a Stampin' Up! die.... I bought it for the large snowflake but haven't used the large one yet! The smaller two layered together were perfect for this card!

FTL220 - Happy Holidays

The first thing I thought about when I saw this sketch was Washi tape!  So I went with that.  The green and red chevron strips are Washi tapes and the scalloped border is a piece of Memory Box Mistletoe patterned paper.  I used a 3D felt sticker from Sandylion from my stash and added a few red rhinestones.  The sentiment is from PaperTrey.  What a fun sketch!

Happy Friday!

Here is this week's sketch. I designed this sketch with the intention of the card being a bit wider than your standard card. Think dimensions like 3.5x6 or 4x6.5. If that's not your thing, 4.25x5.5 would work just fine as well!

Here's my card, it didn't turn out exactly as I wanted, but it's alright! I ended up making it 3.75x6

Stamps: Superstars, Fillable Frames #
Ink: Hawaiian Shores, Tuxedo Black
Paper: White, Aqua Mist, Hawaiian Shores, Bermuda Bay
Accessories, etc: Star die, rhinestones

If you play along, please leave a link to your project!

FTL219 Peace and Joy

It seems that with the change of every season or the change from one month to the next I am constantly amazed that time is moving as quickly as it is....  It doesn't seem possible that we're a month away from 2013!

Another Christmas card from me this week....
I can't wait to see what you come up with using Natasha's great sketch!

FTL218 Christmas Postcard

Hi friends. It's the beginning of a new week and I hope that you had a wonderful Thanksgiving. For those of you brave enough to venture out on Black Friday, I hope your sanity is intact. I can honestly say that I've never shopped on Black Friday. All of my Christmas shopping is done by October 1 and then I start making gifts.

I do have Christmas card burnout so when I need to make one, I'm trying my hand at nontraditional stamp sets and colors. It's very fun. I hope that you like this card and give it a try yourself. We always love to see what you make for our challenges.

Have a very blessed day!

What a fun layout this week....  I saw the circles and knew I had to play with the Martha Stewart snowflake punches I just purchased.... All of the papers I used are shimmer cardstocks...

Hi, everyone! Can you believe it's already time for Thanksgiving?? I swear, it seems like the beginning of the year always drags on, but once kids are back in school and Halloween rolls around, things go by in a blur!

This is what I came up with using this week's FTL217 sketch... As always, if you play along, please be sure to link up to Natasha's post, so we can see your creation. :)

Have a great one!

FTL217 Joyous Season

Good morning Clean and Simple Stampers!!!  I had fun playing with a Bella Blvd sticker sheet to create this card.... and I think this Penny Black sentiment fit the feel of the card perfectly.
I just wish I had another of these sticker sheets... sadly it was from last year...

Friday, November 16, 2012

Good morning!

Time for another sketch! This one didn't really end up being all that simple. I think it could still classify as clean though.

Some measurements:
Card: Standard 4-1/4x5-/12
Red Layer:3-1/2x4-3/4
Mat: 3-5/8x 4-7/8
Gold Strip: 3/4x5-1/2
Hope that helps!

Here is my take on the sketch. I was in the mood for rich jewel tones and gold. I also thought that the Harlequin coverplate would add a nice elegance if I embossed it, so that's what I did.

Stamps: Big & Bold Holiday Wishes (PTI), Ornament Keepsakes (SU!)
Ink: Dark Chocolate, Versamark
Paper: Vintage Cream, Dark Chocolate, Cherry Cobbler, Gold
Accessories, etc,: Harlequin Coverplate, Scalloped border punch, Gold embossing powder, ornament keepsakes die, gold cord, Nestabilities Labels

FTL216 - Christmas Blessings

Hi, everyone! Hope you had a great weekend. :) Just wanted to pop in and share what I came up with using this week's FTL216 sketch.  I decided to make a tag vs. a card, and since I like to use bright and happy wrapping paper, this little bit of sunshine will fit the bill perfectly. :)

If you decide to play along, please be sure to link up your creation in Natasha's original post... I'd love to check it out! :)

Have a great one!

Stamps - Signature Christmas
Paper - Raspberry Fizz, Summer Sunrise, Stamper's Select White, Cosmo Cricket
Ink - Stazon Black
Miscellaneous - Old Olive Grosgrain Ribbon, Scallop Nestabilities

FTL216 Seasons Greetings

This was a quick and easy card to put together... a little embossing, a stamp, some ribbon and a card base... voila!
I wonder if I should have added a little bling to my embossed snowflakes....

FTL216 Happy Birthday

This is my take on the FTL216 sketch.  I always need masculine cards!  The top of the sketch reminded me of my argyle embossing folder and I went from there.

Good morning!

Ready for another sketch? This one is all about scallops! I was in the mood for some scalloped edges, so that's where this sketch came from.

I used the long rectangle nestabilities as my card front. The card base is 2.75x12 (folded at 6 inches). The patterned paper area is 2.75x 4.5.

Stamps: Take a Bough
Paper: Basic Grey, Soft Stone, Holiday DSP (retired Stampin' Up! paper)
Ink: Cherry Cobbler
Accessories, etc.: Long Rectangle Nestabilities (Scalloped and Regular), Button, Baker's Twine, Ribbon

Winter Pastel Snowflakes, FTL215

Hi everybody. I thought that I'd make an appearance today after my second move in 1-1/2 years. And then to really torture myself, my Windows PC went to electronic heaven so I decided to get a Mac to go with the iPhone, iPad, i-everything, etc. Ugh. Here is what I made for you today. I wanted to do something out of my comfort zone and I think this covers it pretty much. What do you think? There are more pictures on my blog at Cindy Coutts Designs.

FTL215 Happy Holidays

I was excited to have a reason to pull out this wonderful Memory Box die....  it is so intricate and beautiful.... I use it with my Big Shot but I add a metal shim to my sandwich.  I have tried a few ways to adhere the intricate die cuts but have found the Xyron sticker maker to be the best way to do it....  I liked the glue pen (the one that looks like a gel pen) but the glue dries too fast....  Tombow Multi makes too much of a mess...  I added a few pieces of bling in the centres of the the larger snowflakes to add a little something to the card.
I look forward to seeing what you create to play along with us!

FTL214 Magic of Christmas

I'm thinking my card needs something... perhaps some embossing on the bottom of the front panel.  I love this new Gumball Green colour from Stampin' Up!  Isn't it pretty???

FTL214 - Thanks So Much

Hi, everyone... Long time no see! :) It's been a while since I've played along with the weekly sketch, but I'm hoping to be a little more consistent going forward.  Here's what I came up with using the most recent FTL214 sketch.

I've also come to the conclusion that I'm pretty much the world's most indecisive stamper! LOL... What should take 20 minutes tops takes me forreevvver! :P While creating this card I went back and forth over whether or not I wanted to use patterned paper or stamping on the bottom portion of my card.  In the end I decided to just go ahead, keep it simple, and just use stamps! :)

Have a great one!

Stamps - Year of Flowers (Violets), Background Basics: Woodgrain, Mega Mixed Messages
Ink - Fresh Snow, Dark Chocolate, Turquoise Gem (Versamark)
Paper - Kraft, Lemon Tart, Stamper's Select White

FTL213 Holiday Cheer

I was at a scrapbooking retreat with my sister... an event we go to every year (this was year #3) and, as usual, I worked on my Christmas cards... my apologies, but next posts on this blog will all be Christmas themed....
I used some Christmas coloured Washi Tape on my card....  and decided I needed more so I am patiently waiting for an order of Christmas Washi Tape!

Good morning.

Time for another sketch! The 3 tabs are 1'', 3/4'', and 1/2'' wide. For the lengths I just attached them to the second layer and trimmed as needed.

I've had several of the Spellbinders Labels dies for a long time and I really haven't used them much. I found that the Labels Nine worked quite nicely with this sketch. I also just got some of the Mama Elephant stamps (Three cheers for fast shipping to Canada!) so I wanted to make use of them.

Stamps: Good Times (Mama Elephant)
Ink: Hawaiian Shores
Paper: Bermuda Bay, White, Echo Paper pack
Accessories, etc: White satin ribbon, Labels 9

FTL212 Happy Harvest

I used this FTL 212 for this week's SCS CAS192 challenge - Harvest theme.  The papers are from MME.  The images, sentiment and dies are from PaperTrey.  I paper pieced the pumpkins and used a Copic marker to color in the stems and leaves.

Happy Friday! I hope you're ready for another sketch. Just a reminder that the contest is still open for last week's WCMD event (see the post just below this one!) Anyway... onto the sketch! I rarely use angles, but I thought it'd be fun to incorporate a few. I don't have any measurements for you. I believe I made each panel about an inch wide. I left them longer than the 4.25 card width, attached them, and then trimmed each panel to fit.

I drew the sketch from memory of the card seen below. Apparently I reversed it, oh well! You get the idea. It's not as though we're that strict around here. If you feel inspired to create, then we're happy!

Stamps: Cupcake Collection, Polka Dot Basics II
Ink: Lavender Moon, Classic Kraft, Dark Chocolate, Snow White
Paper: Kraft, Melon Berry, Lemon Tart, White, Lavender Moon
Accessories, etc.: Button, Corner Rounder

211 and more!!

Happy World Cardmaking Weekend! I realize the technical date is tomorrow, but I like to post the sketches on Friday. In honour of the event, we have an extra challenge and a few prizes!!

The first thing you'll notice is the slightly different format to the sketches. Sadly, life has gotten quite busy. This has left little time for digitizing the sketches. I've started to draw them out in a drawing program instead. By doing the sketches this way, I can do them much quicker! They may not be as pretty, but they are more reflective of how they look in my sketch books.

The bonus challenge is a colour challenge. To be eligible for a prize, we ask that you create a card using the sketch, the colour challenge, or both! As always leave a link at the end of the post. The contest will run for 2 weeks, until October 19th. After that time, at least 4 winners will be drawn.

First up, here are the sketch and the colour challenges:

Some dimensions for you:
  • Card base 4-1/4x5-1/2
  • Squares 1-1/2
  • Square Frame 1-5/8
  • The vertical panel 4-1/4x1-3/4

Some colour guidelines:
If using Papertrey Ink colours, think New Leaf, Spring Moss, Dark Chocolate, and Aqua Mist
If using Stampin' Up! colours, think Wild Wasabi, Certainly Celery, Chocolate Chip, and Pool Party

I've specifically excluded names on the graphic. There are so many awesome paper choices out there, I'm sure most companies will have something in those shades. Feel free to incorporate any neutral (grey, white, cream, black, kraft)

Here is my card:
Stamps: Stem Silhouettes
Ink: Pool Party, Wild Wasabi, Certainly Celery, Chocolate Chip
Paper: White, Chocolate Chip, Wild Wasabi, Pool Party, Certainly Celery
Accessories, etc.: Eyelet Border die

What are the prizes?
We've got Botanical Silhouettes by Papertrey Ink, a new (old style) Stampin' Up! Daffodil Delight ink pad, assortment of 6x6 papers. We've also got Round and Round by Papertrey Ink. There will also be other assorted stamps and embossing folders (details to follow). I hope you can play along. And of course, to be eligible, please leave a link to your project!!

FTL 210 Birthday

I wasn't sure what I wanted to do with this sketch.... but I made an easy decision and grabbed out a 6X6 paper pad by Cosmo Cricket....  chose some patterns and voila...
A different colour combination/palette for me, but I think I like it!

FTL210 Happy Birthday

This is my take on FTL210.  I used various patterned papers from the DCWV Linen Closet stack.  I think this makes a great masculine card.  I moved the sentiment a bit to the left to give the card some balance.
Supplies: Stamps - PaperTrey; Paper - PaperTrey, DCWV; Ink - PaperTrey Classic Kraft; Misc - PaperTrey Double Ended Banner Die, Foam Squares
