Happy New Year! I thought that I'd make a fun child's Valentine's Day card today. You can change the sentiment and the card could be used for any occasion. The colors are great for a boy or a girl. The image panel isn't pink as it might look in the picture but more of a dark salmon color that isn't girly at all. Even so, the bold colors in the designer paper mute it out enough. I hope you enjoy our fabulous sketch!

10 Minute Christmas

I thought I would just do a quick post showcasing a few of the cards I made for giving away this year. I really left it until the last minute, but I set aside 1.5 hours tonight and managed to make 24 cards! That's actually less than 4 minutes a card! I probably could have made more, but I hadn't bothered to check how many I'd need.

I've done designs like this before, but it's just such a sharp and quick design that I had to do it again! I also made a small dent in my pattern paper collection. I used a sentiment from PTI's Stylish Sentiments: Holidays, an ornament hook from Take a Bough, and an interior greeting from Inside & Out: Holidays.

My two big tips for making a card this simple:

Be sure to use a high quality, thick, and bright white paper for the card. It really makes all the difference! I used PTI's white paper. For layered cards I generally use any office store's bulk cardstock brand for my card base, but if it's a one layer card you're making, use the good stuff!
Use dimensional tape- I can't stress this enough! Having that little bit of dimension adds the right amount of interest to something that would otherwise be too flat.

The cards are all the standard 4-1/4x5-1/2. I used a 1-3/4 circle punch.

Hi crafty people! Do you have Christmas burnout yet? I sure do, so I decided to make something else. This isn't necessarily for Valentine's Day, although it could be used as a Valentine's Day card. I didn't start out with the intent of making this card for anything special rather than just to make it and experimenting with stuff that I haven't seen for a while.

I used Stampin' Up! products of Delicate Doilies, Flirtatious Designer Series Paper, Melon Mambo, Pretty in Pink, and a few punches with a couple of embellishments. My sentiment is from Friendly Phrases.

Good afternoon everyone!

Just figured I'd do a bit of housekeeping before posting this week's sketch. This will be the last sketch of 2011. With holidays and all the busy-ness associated with them, it's just easier for everyone to take a break until the new year. Sketches will resume January 6, 2012.

I had a lot of fun with this one. And although I could have easily made a holiday card, I have a few birthdays that I needed a card for, so I went with that. I actually made two cards. The first has a masculine vibe, it's for my paternal Grandfather, it's his 77th birthday today.

The second is for my maternal Grandmother, it's her 86th birthday on Monday. I always remember her whistling to the birds that would come by her garden, so I thought the bird was a nice touch.

Good morning! What a wonderful sketch we have with so many possibilities this week! I was very excited to make this card and I'll have another one for you later with a fabulous tropical spin on it! There's Fresh Snow ink distressing on the edges of the Christmas tree image and Aqua Mist card stock, but it's hard to tell in the photograph. I also stamped tone-on-tone with the ink and card stock. The swirls on the image were colored with a silver glitter pen. I hope that you enjoy this and that it provides you with some inspiration. Good evening, this week has flown by, I can't believe it's already Thursday. I had the sketch already to go, all I needed was the card.

Time for another sketch! I am still, and I suspect I will be for a while, on a Christmas card groove.

For this card, the measurements really aren't all that important. Basically, make the bottom panel close to 1/3 the size of the whole card. I am still very much enjoying my Wplus9 stamps, so I decided to feature them again. I am also loving this colour combination!

Here's my take on the FTL164. This will be going to the MD Anderson Cancer Center. I embossed a frame to represent the layers of the sketch. The poinsettias were cut with the Spellbinders Poinsettia die and then water colored with Memento ink and an aquabrush.

Time for another sketch!

I was in the mood for lots of glitter and that brought about this holiday card. I adhered the cardstock for the ornaments to scor-tape sheets before running them through the cuttlebug. That makes things a lot easier! My main image panel was 2.5x3.75. The sentiment pane was 2.5x5.

I didn't pick up the matching die for this stamp set, so I did the crazy thing and fussy cut the image out, which yes I realize may not be the truest clean and simple way to go about things.

Hello! Time for another sketch!

When I started playing around, I found that I could only really get it to work by changing the card to 4x6, instead of the standard 4.25x5.5. It still follows the sketch, it just gives a bit more length to work with. The only other measurement to note is the bottom panel, which is 1.5 x4.

I also wasn't intending on making a winter-y card, it just kind of happened. The last few days have been chillier, but it's supposed to be back to the low to mid 20s this weekend!

I ended up moving the patterned strip to the left side of the card. Sometimes you can try to use a sketch to the t, and it doesn't quite work, but modifying it just a bit can make all the difference. Perhaps if I had used a different image and placed the image more to the left, having the patterned strip on the right would have been more balanced.

Well, I hope you enjoyed our month of collaboration with some of the other great challenge blogs out there! We're back to taking things solo, but if you hadn't ventured out before to some other challenge blogs, remember there are just so many out there, ready to inspire!

This sketch is super simple! There's really nothing to measure. Start with your basic card base, pick what kind of image you want to put in the circle, then find a circle punch or die to fit the image. Easy! Here, I actually have a little tip. I didn't feel like cutting out the sunflower or masking (since that required fussy cutting too), so I took an exacto knife and cut along the flower in 2 spots, just big enough to slide the leaf in behind the main image. It worked great and it was really quick! I was quite happy with it, since it gave that extra bit of dimension without the work.

Time for another sketch. The sketch is for a tall, skinny card. It's quite a basic card, but if you're curious on what measurements I used:

Card base: 6x3-3/4
White Layer: 1-1/4x3-3/4

I am obsessed with these colours together once again. I had kind of taken a break from them, but I saw a spread in a design magazine, and thought, "right, I have always liked those colours together".

Good morning, time for another sketch! I've seen lots of fun projects that make use of banners, so I thought I'd incorporate one into this week's sketch.

Here's my card. I was in the mood for using fruit stamps, don't know why, so that's what I used. In order to make the banner shape, I traced a square block, nothing high tech or fancy over here.

Happy Monday everyone.... it's a cool wet day here in Calgary, perfect for spending at my crafting table with a few movies and my paper crafting supplies. If only I could manage to tear myself away from blog surfing and Facebook LOL! I just finished watching the end of "Easy A" and am moving on to "Going The Distance" once I'm done this blog post.

This was a quick and easy sketch for me, once I figured out what colours I wanted to use. I picked up the new Stampin' Up! colours from my demonstrator friend the other day and decided to use them in this card...

I took a little liberty with the sketch this time - I moved the main image to the left side and put the sentiment at the bottom right. I really like this sketch - it focuses on the main image - very versatile - just change the image and the papers!

Here's my take on it. It's didn't turn out exactly as I had hoped. I meant to adhere the circles not so close to the edge, but once they were down, there was no moving them.
